Hisamitsu Springs of Japan at Zurich 2014. The Japanese team is back again this year, featuring in the opening match of Zurich 2015.
Lausanne, Switzerland, April 17, 2015 - The FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship 2015 begins at the Saalsporthalle in Zurich next week - the event which kick-starts the FIVB's indoor season. Anticipation is running high as the organisers release the full match schedule.
The opening round sees the six participating teams divided into two pools. As of day one on Wednesday, May 6 there are some huge matches to look forward to. In fact, every match promises its share of excitement in the two tricky three-team pools. It could be easy to qualify for the semifinals. But slip up in any game and you could just as easily be knocked out.
The first day of pool play sees some of the competition's outsiders in action, but the favourites can hardly rest on their laurels. Blink and you’re out of contention. Day two of pool play should feature a lot of jostling for position as teams attempt to claim that top position in the pool standings, which means that you avoid the theoretically stronger team of the other pool in the semifinals. And day three also features two matches where the favourites will not be allowed to relax for a single point.
Pool A features Rexona-Ades of Rio de Janeiro, hosts Volero Zurich and Mirador of Santo Domingo. Pool B includes Eczacibasi VitrA of Istanbul, Japan’s Hisamitsu Springs and Dinamo Krasnodar. Pool matches are all at 17:30 and 20:00 local time (15:30 and 18:00 GMT).
The top two teams in each pool qualify for the semifinals, which take place at 15:30 and 18:00 local time (13:30 and 16:00 GMT) on Saturday, May 9. The semifinal losers will play for bronze on Sunday, May 10 at 12:30 local time (10:30 GMT). That match will be followed by the competition's final at 15:00 local time (13:00 GMT).Match schedule:
