Hisamitsu Springs were the first team to qualify for the World Club Championship when they stunned four-times champions Bohai Bank Tianjin from China in the final of the 2014 Asian Club Championship. The win ended Hisamitsu's 12-year drought in Asia's premier club competition, which they previously won in 2002 when they competed under their old name, the Hisamitsu Spring Attackers. This will be the Springs' second appearance at the World Club Championship. They will be hoping to improve on last year's performance when they lost both of their matches 3-1 to finish bottom of Pool B with zero points. They were beaten by eventual winners Dinamo Kazan and Brazilian side Molico/Osasco.
 
The club was founded in 1948, but they became a top-level force when two teams, Hisamitsu Springs and Hisamitsu Spring Attackers, merged in 2001 and took the name Hisamitsu Spring Attackers. After winning their first Japanese national league title in 2002, they changed their name to Hisamitsu Springs. They won three more league titles, most notably in season 2012/13 when they had the most successful season in their history – winning five official national competitions, including the All Japan Volleyball Tournament and the Empress's Cup.
