Rexona-Ades inch closer to Zurich 2015 semis

Rexona-AdeS Rio de Janeiro celebrate decisive victory over Volero Zurich.

Zurich, Switzerland, May 7, 2015 - Rexona AdeS Rio de Janeiro countered the unreachable height of the Volero Zurich players with all the flair and digging drama that only the best of Brazilian teams can provide. With libero Fabi sweeping the entire court and plenty of options all across their attacking line -outside, centre and opposite- Rexona-AdeS left no doubt of their superiority, defeating Volero 3-1 (30-28, 25-22, 35-33, 25-22).

The result leaves Pool A wide open, with just one match to go, between Rexona-AdeS and Mirador Santo Domingo, tomorrow afternoon at 17:30 local time (15:30 GMT).

Even when it all mattered most the Brazilians proved up to it: At the end of the first set, having survived six Volero set-balls, Giovana came in for Gabi to immediatey score an ace and Natalia pulled off a huge block on Olesia Rykhliuk for the final 30-28. And coach Bernardinho even had other solutions off the bench: Drussyla had to come in for Natalia during the third set and stayed on for the fourth, but even she had her contribution of eight points. Gabi led the Brazilian scoring with 19 points.

The hosts did just barely claw one back, a cliffhanger of a third set, but the reigning Brazilian and South American champions eventually came through in the fourth to hand Volero their first ever pool play defeat in three World Champs appearances.
