Hosts Molico/Osasco begin South American Women's Club Championship with victory

Osasco, Brazil, February 5, 2015 – San Martín de Porres, Club Atlético de Villa Dora and hosts Osasco Voleibol Clube claimed straight-set wins on the first day of the fifteenth edition of the South American Women’s Club Championship. The competition winners will qualify for the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship from May 5-10.

The tournament’s opening match saw San Martín de Porres from Peru take on Chile's Club Boston College. The Peruvians, with Spanish head coach Diego García at the helm, claimed a 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-20) victory in an hour and ten minutes. Brazilian hitter and captain Milca Da Silva was the top scorer for San Martín with 18 points, while Chris Vorpahl scored 17 for their opponents. Chilean Jorge Quintana’s team now look ahead to a crucial match against hosts and tournament favourites Molico/Osasco on Thursday.

The second match on Wednesday saw Argentina's Club Atlético de Villa Dora play San Francisco Xavier from Bolivia. Villa Dora were confident winners in an hour and nine minutes, with their captain Maria Westergaard scoring 17 points in the straight-sets victory 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-15).

The final match of the day paired Molico/Osasco with Club Atlético Bohemios from Uruguay. Team coach Luizomar de Moura's team, who finished second to Russian club Dinamo Kazan at last year's Women's Club World Championship and won the global title in 2012, put on a convincing performance, claiming the match in 58 minutes and three sets 3-0 (25-4, 25-9, 25-8). Adenízia, Mari and Gabi scored 10 points each.
