Godze: "It was fight, fight, fight"

Zurich, Switzerland May 9, 2015 – Yilmaz Godze says her and Eczacibasi Vitra are focused on the gold medal at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship 2015 after they defeated Volero Zurich to reach the final on Saturday.

Yilmaz Gozde, Eczacibasi VitrA: “We are so happy that we played so well. It was really tough. We’ve played them many times and it’s always tough. They are a side that never give up, and they kept coming back. We were crushing each other. It was fight, fight, fight. I’ve been third and second in this tournament before, so now I want gold.”

Giovanni Caprara, Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul coach: “To be honest, Volero Zurich really struggled in the first two sets, what gave us a big advantage. Their passing game didn’t work, although they received well. On the other hand, we helped them to come back into the game with our unforced errors since they started to believe in themselves. Tomorrow is going to be big. Both possible opponents are really strong, but it’s really great to have this big support by our fans.”

Courtney Thompson, Volero Zurich: “We didn’t start well at all. We seemed low on focus and energy. But we got things going and I’m proud of how we bounced back. They are a very consistent side, they are patient, they serve well, and they have an incredible defence. We just couldn’t get the ball down. But now we have to reset and win the bronze match. We came to get on the podium.”

Avital Selinger, Volero Zurich coach: “We are really disappointed. We came up short in the first two sets. Eczacibasi VitrA deserved the win – they wanted it more and did the extra job for the W. We just proved our skills sometimes. We have to prove now how bad we want a medal –and to realise that there are no presents at this level. We don’t think about the two last editions of the FIVB Club World Championship – there’s no past, there’s no future, only now! We have to be ready from the very beginning of the game – not just after an hour like today.”
