FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship 2015 - Day One - As It Happened

 

The FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship 2015 got underway in Zurich on Wednesday

Zurich, Switzerland, May 6, 2015 - Catch all the action as it happened on the opening day of the FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship Zurich 2015. In the first match Japan's Hisamitsu Springs stunned European champions Eczacibasi VitrA in five thrilling sets before Volero Zurich bounced back from a set down to beat Mirador.

The ninth edition of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship takes place in Zurich from May 6 to 10.

Wednesday's action started at 17.30 CET, when Japan's Hisamitsu Springs Kobe beat Pool B rivals Eczacibasi Vitra Istanbul of Turkey 3-2  (12-25, 28-26, 25-20, 19-25, 15-11) . 

Tournament hosts Volero Zurich then fought back from a set down to beat Mirador Santo Domingo 3-1 (20-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-15) in Pool A.

The Women’s Club World Championship has had eight different winners from five different countries. Brazil has been represented on the winner’s podium three times, Turkey twice, while Azerbaijan, Italy and Russia have all had clubs win the competition once.

Six clubs will compete for honours in 2015, including Volero Zurich (Switzerland), Hisamitsu Springs (Japan), Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul (Turkey), Rexona Ades (Brazil), Dinamo Krasnodar (Russia) and Mirador (Dominican Republic).
