FIVB President looks forward to "melting pot of talent" at Women's Club World Champs

FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° presents the trophy to 2014 FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship winners Dinamo Kazan

Zurich, Switzerland, April 29, 2015 - FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° has welcomed the six teams participating in the 2015 edition of the FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship to Zurich.

President Graça: "I am delighted to welcome you once again to Zurich, Switzerland. This is the third year in a row that Zurich is hosting this prestigious club competition. The past two editions have been hugely successful and I am expecting Switzerland’s largest city to put on a fascinating show once again.

"It has been six years since the Women’s Club World Championship returned to the international calendar. In that time, it has become the pinnacle tournament for clubs worldwide, offering the perfect climax to the domestic season.

"The tournament offers fans something different - setting it apart from international events. When volleyball players from different backgrounds and cultures come together, something unique is often created. This melting pot of technique and talent has helped create some truly fascinating moments in the tournament’s history.

"Although teams from Europe and South America have dominated the podium, clubs from all corners of the globe can easily upset the form book and make a run at the gold medal in 2015. Volleyball continues to develop globally at a remarkable rate, and I hope that teams from Asia and the NORCECA region continue to challenge for podium positions.

"Technology continues to be one of the main pillars the FIVB continues to improve year on year. The Volleyball Tracking System, introduced in 2014, is just one example of this, as is the innovative LED net which we hope to see in action at some point in the future. It is vital that we differentiate ourselves as a sport and technological advances such as these can help us do just that.

"We are lucky to have gathered some of the world’s best players in Zurich for this tournament, and I am positive that the outstanding line-up of clubs will put on a thrilling show for the fans. Spectators will be treated to world-class volleyball and world-class entertainment; it is a unique experience for everyone involved.

"I wish the players and teams the best of luck and look forward to watching the tournament unfold in what I am sure will be a fascinating event."
